At CarmoFarm, we promote responsible forestry, based on sustainable practices that we use to ensure we can meet our own needs – agricultural posts, turned timber and utility poles.
At CarmoFarm, when we talk about forestry, we are referring to the activities and operations involved in harvesting timber, our raw material. We therefore have a department that oversees and carries out the activities necessary to source timber, namely the purchase, felling, stacking and transport of timber.
What types of forestry operations do we carry out? And how do we go about them?
Thinning operations in pine forests are the most commonly used form of forest management, as it is from younger forests that we produce timber poles and thinner-diameter timber. In selective thinning, we select specific trees to ensure healthier and more productive forests, prevent fires by removing fuel, and encourage natural regeneration.
Forestry operations at CarmoFarm are carried out primarily in stands of maritime pine, Scots pine or black pine, which are species with sufficient mechanical strength and slenderness for use in our various products. Our forestry operations are carried out on land owned by third parties.
Full utilisation of wood
We use timber with a diameter of 3 cm or more and make use of almost 100 per cent of the waste, from the bark for landscaping, to shavings for animal bedding, and offcuts for energy production.

CarmoFarm makes it possible to secure certain types of raw materials that are more difficult to source on the market, addressing labour shortages, ensuring quality control in production, speeding up the fulfilment of more specific orders, and better managing the company’s needs.
Forestry operations at CarmoFarm also play an important role in the sector, as we carry out a great deal of thinning on small private holdings, thereby helping to enhance the value of the forest – which might otherwise be left to run to ruin – whilst also having a positive impact on local economies.
